How to play this or that questions for couples

  1. Pick your rounds

Switch on the levels you want. Quick fire is the warm up; Love & us is where the good stories hide.

  2. Answer fast

Read the card out and both say your pick on three. No thinking, no changing your answer after.

  3. Explain one

When you split, the odd one out gets thirty seconds to defend their pick. Then pick one card each to explain properly.

  4. Play the guessing round

For a harder game, guess your partner’s pick out loud before they answer. Keep score, or don’t.

Tips for a good round

  • Say your answers at the same time so nobody can copy.
  • The fun lives in the splits. Ask “why that one?” every time you disagree.
  • Save the cards that surprised you and send them as picks for next time.
  • On a road trip, the passenger reads and both of you answer.
  • Ten cards makes a good waiting room game; the whole deck makes a whole evening.

Frequently asked questions

What are good this or that questions for couples?

Good ones are fast to answer and quietly revealing: big spoon or little spoon, talk it out now or sleep on it, full itinerary or just wander. This deck has 150 of them across four rounds, from quick fire to love and us.

How do you play this or that as a couple?

Read a card, both answer at once, then talk about any you split on. For a harder round, guess your partner’s pick before they say it out loud. Pass the phone mode keeps track of whose turn it is to read.

Is this or that the same as would you rather?

Close cousins. This or that is a quick preference between two everyday things; would you rather drops you into a scenario and makes you choose. If you like the debate more than the speed, try the Would You Rather deck too.

Can we play this or that over text or on a call?

Yes. Copy or share any single card, or send the whole deck to your partner with one link. Heart a few cards and “Send these to your partner” opens the same deck with only the ones you chose.

Are these okay for a new relationship?

Yes. Quick fire and Dates & travel are light enough for early dates, and Love & us gets more personal without getting heavy. Switch off any level that feels too soon.

Is it free, and do I need to sign up?

Free, no account, nothing to install. It runs in your browser, and the favorites you save with the heart stay on this device only. Nothing is sent anywhere.
